Apropos http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=2696.0 , "I'm really starting to think a570is doesn't support PTP upload one bit...", see http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=SDKHomePageAct&keycode=Sdk_Lic&fcategoryid=314&modelid=7474&id=3464 linked from http://gphoto.wiki.sourceforge.net/Capture (there's also http://gphoto.sourceforge.net/doc/remote/ ).

The second table seems to describe PTP capabilities? Third column is "Download & Upload". Canon seems to be providing only limited PTP support on its new low-end cameras.

Briefly skimming the gphoto and chdk sites, my impression was there were a couple of cases where information hadn't been communicated between them.

Getting file upload and eval working in chdk would be great. It would enable remote control of the increasing number of canon's which don't support it in PTP.

But it looks like a mechanism other than PTP file upload will be needed. Perhaps adding a hook to 'get file', and passing up text by encoding it into filenames? /evalnow/print_"hi" or /open/foo /write/foo/more_text /close/foo /evalnow/require_foo . I don't know if this is fast enough to be feasible. If setting properties is very fast, one might write character values to a property, and assemble them in chdk? Otherwise, the best bet may be the hardware things which pretend to be an SD card to the camera, but whose contents are remotely alterable (eg via wireless). Then all the camera needs to do is recognize the uploaded files when they magically appear on the "card".

Thanks for your work. And fudgey's (whose wiki page seemed even less active than this one, so I leave the note here). 98.216.110.149 20:05, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

uhm Edit

Huh? Who is General Failure and why is he reading my Harddisk?

now seriously, who are you and why are you using the wiki to sort of post messages to me? Why not use the forum and/or irc? communicating via the wiki is pointless, imo.
