You have got to be kidding me :| is constructing a remote cable really this easy? Thanks a lot for this, I will try this asap! -- 82.215.30.65 22:31, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Half the story
Edit
Yes, it looks easy, and I will try it on my A590IS. But it would be better if there were a way to fully mimic the camera's shutter release button, which has a pre-release position (half-way depressed) for metering & focus before shutter release.
PS: after some probing. Found that an approach to my stated wish is discussed in the following thread: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,2041.0.html

External flash?
Edit
I have an A590 IS, and would like to take portraits using an external flash/umbrella using Strobist approaches.
Is there a way to trigger the shutter with the remote cable AND have the camera fire the external flash at the right time?

Yes it depends on the flash but here is enough info, do you have a flash to try on?
