Overall, CHDK is safe to use on your camera. There are a few caveats, however:

  • GrAnd says that CHDK's code will not modify the firmware, but this does not rule out accidental modification due to a bug. Further research is required.
  • The native OS may contain safety features that prevent the camera from damaging itself. CHDK has the potential to remove these safeguards.
