I'm a Kite Aerial Photographer (I use an 11 metre carbon-fibre fishing pole too) so the ability to trigger the shutter remotely was the main reason I started using CHDK back in 2007. I did some work on mode-switching for the A570 and a few other cameras but was grateful when David Sykes made this a standard feature of SDM and others then did the same for CHDK.
